Designing and decorating your little one’s nursery is one of the most exciting and satisfying parts of pregnancy. There’s a lot you’ll need to buy, and you need to ensure that you’ve got all the essential items ready for baby’s arrival, but you’re free to design your perfect nursery however you’d like to suit your style.
This blog will offer design inspiration for your dream nursery whether you’re looking for soft neutrals or playful colours. From cots, to wardrobes, feeding chairs and decorations, let us help you build your dream nursery ready for your new arrival.
What Do You Need for a Nursery?
When starting to design your little one’s nursery, you’ll need to make a list of all the essential items you need. You will need somewhere for your baby to sleep after the first six months where they’ll sleep with you, you’ll need plenty of storage space for clothing, nappies and changing essentials. You’ll ideally also need somewhere to sit where you can feed your baby, this is especially useful for night feeds. Let’s run through the other nursery furniture essentials before we get into specific product recommendations…
Cot
The most important piece of furniture you need is a cot. Your baby will sleep in a bedside crib for the first six months, but after that they’ll need a safe and cosy space to sleep. You will also need to get a breathable and comfortable mattress for the cot to keep your little one safe.
Wardrobes
While not essential if you don’t have the space, a wardrobe is a handy piece of furniture for any nursery that you can use for years to come and are great for when your little one grows into bigger clothes. Wardrobes are also really handy if you have twins or other children for that bit of extra storage space.
Chests
As you may already know, it’s easy as a parent to accumulate way more clothes for your baby than you own yourself. Having a good size chest of drawers that you can organise is essential for storage. The top of chests of drawers also makes a perfect changing station, so a dresser is definitely considered as an essential nursery item.
Feeding Chairs
You’ll be spending a lot of time in your baby’s nursery from nighttime feeds to story times or playtime, so it’s important to have a comfortable place to sit and rest your feet. There are a number of feeding chair options to choose from, and you could even get a rocking chair that will help soothe your baby to sleep.
Moses Baskets and Bedside Cribs
For the first six months of your little one’s life, they will be in a moses basket or bedside crib, so while it technically isn’t part of their nursery, it’s still an important piece of furniture that you won’t want to forget.
