The ADAC test scores for baby car seats have just come in, and we’re proud to let you know that many of the top scorers are car seats you can get right here with us at NBS.
We understand that baby car seat shopping can be quite overwhelming, and there’s plenty of technical jargon to get to grips with. We’re here to help explain all you need to know about ADAC testing, what it means, and which models have been tested and given the 2024 ADAC stamp of approval.
What is ADAC?
ADAC stands for Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club, or in English, the General German Automobil Club. It is basically the largest and most authoritative automobile association in Europe that test on car seat safety.
The ADAC car seat tests are known for being much stricter than the legal requirements of regular testing standards which are known as R44.
ADAC uses rigorous safety measures and testing methods to judge and carefully rate every aspect of a car seat, including how it stands in the event of a crash. Their philosophy is to make it clear to parents who are shopping for a car seat, which ones are the safest and crafted and tested to the highest standards.
ADAC Car Seat Testing
ADAC child car seat tests are published twice a year, and they don’t just influence which seats parents buy, but also how brands and manufacturers design and make car seats to improve their performance.
In some cases, manufacturers will even pull their product from the market based on its ADAC score so they can work on improving its features and design. This gives parents peace of mind that a car seat that has been ADAC tested is safer than ever.
ADAC will biannually test selected and new child car seat models and put them through their rigorous and extensive safety tests. The current standard of testing which has been used since 2020 is as follows:
