As winter draws in, you’ll want to ensure your baby stays snug while out and about this chilly season. With that, comes the question of how to dress your baby whilst in a baby carrier during the winter months.

In this blog, trusted brand Ergobaby share their top three tips for safe, warm and comfortable winter babywearing:

1. Less is More

Dressing baby in too many layers of clothing could cause them to overheat, so start with less and add more if you feel baby is too chilly.

When dressing baby, remember that your carrier is going to be adding a further layer of warmth around them. Being worn so close to you, baby is also going to be warmed by your body (which is likely to increase in warmth as you’re carrying baby, along with any number of parenting essentials!).

2. Avoid Snowsuits, Please

However cute a baby in a snowsuit is (😍), it’s important that your little one doesn’t wear one when they are in a baby carrier or sling. Not only could it cause your baby to overheat, but the padded snowsuit can also prevent your little one from sitting in an ergonomic, safe carry position. It’s particularly important for very young babies, as if they are not safe & snug in their sling or carrier, their airways also may not be adequately supported.

3. Pack Spares

Baby’s extremities are going to feel coldest, so mittens, a warm hat & socks/booties are essential whilst out and about in cold weather. Unfortunately, these are some of the easiest things to lose out on a walk (there’s a reason for all those odd kids shoes you see on the side of the road), so it’s good to pack spares just in case!
